Estimation of Transmitter IQ Imbalance in Digital Coherent Communication Systems

(in English) To satisfy the ever-increasing traffic demand in a cost-effective manner, the transmission capacity per wavelength needs to be increased. The use of high-order modulation formats and high-baud signals can increase the transmission capacity per wavelength. However, such signal forms are susceptible to IQ impairments caused in the transceiver. Although IQ impairments can be canceled in the receiver-side DSP, transmitter IQ impairments should be calibrated at the transmitter side from the viewpoints of cost and performance. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating transmitter IQ impairments from tap coefficients of the adaptive filters adopted in the measurement system. With the estimated value, we can eliminate the transmitter IQ impairments by the transmitter-side DSP.
