Evaluation of power adaptive IQ multiplexed 16QAM method for downlink transmission of coherent PON system

(in English) In the downlink transmission of a coherent PON system using QAM modulation, when IQ multiplexing, which allocates I-axis and Q-axis information to different ONUs, is applied, excess power is distributed to ONUs close to the OLT. We used the adaptive IQ multiplexing method, allocating the optimum power to each IQ axis for two ONU pairs with a distance difference. In the digital signal processing on the receiving side, an FFT-based algorithm was used for frequency offset compensation, and a PLL-based algorithm was used for carrier phase synchronization. In this paper, we numerically show 2.7 dB power efficiency improvement compared to conventional 16QAM signal by using the adaptive IQ multiplexed 16QAM signal in the case of the 50 km difference between two ONUs.
