Swift Estimation Method of Available Bandwidth to Realize Robust Wireless Video Transmission Systems

(in English) Realtime wireless video services, such as remote surveillance and teleoperation, have attracted significant attention due to the advent of local 5G. However, drastic changes of available bandwidth due to interference or shadowing by moving obstacles poses challenges to providing guaranteed quality of video stream without disconnection over wireless network, which requires a certain estimation of available bandwidth based on the estimation of the changing wireless environment and then controlling the video quality. In the conventional study, available bandwidth is estimated quickly by using the table mapping the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) to the available bandwidth (AB). However, because the fixed table doesn’t reflect the wireless interference, it causes differences between the estimated available bandwidth and the true one. In this paper, to estimate the available bandwidth more precisely, reflecting the changing wireless environment, we propose the hybrid calibration method which consists of the long term calibration and the short term calibration. Moreover, for the experimental evaluation of the proposed method, a real network scenario is implemented, including a video transmission link and an interference link both connected via the same Access Point. The result shows the proposed method is more than 1.6 times as accurate as the conventional method on the basis of “the ratio of divergence” which indicates the difference from the actual bandwidth.
