In order to improve the quality of user experience, carriers operating cellular networks aim to improve the performance of sectors in the base stations. These carriers try to adjust the number of accommodated users by changing the coverage of sectors. In order to adjust the number of users appropriately, it is desirable to change the coverage based on the distribution of users using the cellular network. However, since the distribution of users is unknown, the coverage change is based on empirical rules and is not always optimal. In this paper, we propose an extended method of block kriging to estimate the distribution of users using cellular networks. Block kriging is a kind of kriging, which is a typical spatial interpolation method. However, when it is applied to the estimation of user distribution in cellular networks, the estimation accuracy is degraded due to the small number of observations and the overlapping of multiple coverages. The proposed method addresses the degradation of estimation accuracy of the conventional method by adding a correction term to the conventional estimation formula and then iteratively estimating with various theoretical variograms. Simulation evaluations show that the proposed method can capture the trend of user distribution better than the conventional block kriging. |
