Evaluation of antenna pointing control error onboard fixed-wing UAV to realize video transmission relay station

(in English) A Wireless relay system for video transmission is one of promising applications for fixed-wing UAV against multi-copter type UAV as the fixed-wing can fly for a longer time. To realize the system, it is necessary to point the antenna to a required ground station accurately regardless of turning motions of the UAV for staying in the air. Therefore, this paper proposes a highly accurate antenna pointing control system which uses a fixed-wing UAV and a 2-axis gimbal system onboard the UAV and describes the evaluation result of the control error by computer simulations. It is confirmed that the antenna pointing control system can point its antenna direction with a standard deviation 0.54° for elevation and 0.67°for azimuth, regardless of the motion of the UAV.
