[Invited Lecture] Estimation of MIMO Channel Capacity in an Indoor Environment Using Ray-Tracing Method

(in English) Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, which uses multiple transmit and receive antennas, has been studied as a method for high-speed wireless communication. In order to realize high-speed and high-quality wireless communications in the next generation systems, understanding of complicated propagation characteristics is necessary and accurate modeling and estimation of the propagation characteristics are moreover important for their practical application. In this paper, we estimate the propagation characteristics and the channel capacity of a MIMO system in an indoor environment. The raytracing method, which is one of the most common methods for analyzing propagation characteristics is used for the estimation. We propose a method to improve the estimation accuracy of the MIMO channel capacity over the entire room by correcting the propagation characteristics calculated by the raytracing based on the measured data at some points.
