This paper considers a system using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a camera and a transceiver for autonomous inspection of power transmission lines. In this system, a base station (BS) are placed on a power plant or substation, and control information for autonomous flight is exchanged between the BS and UAV. Reliable communication lines between the BS and UAV is essential to realize this system. However, because power transmission facilities are constructed in mountainous areas, it is difficult to keep line-of-sight (LOS) between the BS and UAV. To realize this system, this paper considers multi-hop transmissions by relay stations at power transmission towers or UAVs. To take into account mountainous areas, this paper uses GIS to verify LOS on BS-UAV line via relay stations at the power transmission towers or UAVs, and discuss the feasibility of this system. |
