Hybrid-ARQ Scheme Using Systematic Polarization-Adjusted Convolutional Codes

(in English) Recently, Polarization-Adjusted Convolutional (PAC) codes have been proposed by Arıkan, and it is shown that the error performance is significantly improved compared to the conventional polar codes in the short to medium block-length regime. In real-life communication systems, the Hybrid-Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) technique, a combination of high-rate forward error correcting codes and automatic repeat request error-control, is widely used to ensure the reliability of information transmissions. Though HARQ schemes using polar codes have been extensively studied, applications of PAC codes to HARQ schemes are not sufficiently investigated. In this paper, we propose an HARQ scheme with systematic PAC codes, and evaluate its performance by simulations. The results show that the error performance and throughput efficiency of the proposed scheme outperform the conventional methods with systematic polar codes, especially in the low values of signal-to-noise ratios.
