Non-Linear Response Observed on AC characteristics of Free-standing Lipid Bilayer

(in English) Bilayer lipid membranes (BLMs) mixed with nano materials are expected to be applied for electron devices such as a photo-sensor. To investigate electrical properties of BLMs, electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) has been commonly used. It should be noted that the EIS assumes linear elements. Therefore, it is important to confirm waveforms flowing across a BLM, which we measured in this report by using a current-voltage converter. In experiments, a free-standing BLM was formed in an aperture fabricated on a Si/Si3N4 chip. A sine voltage waveform was applied with its peak values between 100 mV and 900 mV at frequencies of 40, 100, and 200 mHz. Non-linearity was evaluated using a correlation coefficient R between the observed AC current waveform and an ideal sine curve. Non-linearity was observed when sine voltage waveforms of relatively large peak voltages and of low frequencies (100 mHz or less) were applied. Even after non-linearity was observed, the BLM exhibited linearity again by decreasing the peak voltage. The results indicated voltage peak values suitable EIS measurements.
