An Extension of LiNGAM to Functional Data Analysis

(in English) We often use the Linear Non-Gaussian Acyclic Model (LiNGAM) to find random variables' causal order. In the LiNGAM, we can only identify the order if one of them is non-Gaussian. This paper extends the notion from variables to functions (Functional Linear Non-Gaussian Acyclic Model, Func-LiNGAM). First, we prove that we can identify the order among random functions if and only if one of them is a non-Gaussian process. To this end, we extend the Darmois-Skitovich theorem for dealing with random functions and apply the notion of functional principal component analysis that makes us estimate the order of random functions. The experiments contain order identification simulation among multiple functions for given samples. In particular, we apply to the problem of finding brain connections by fMRI. We can see the improvements in execution speed compared to existing methods.
