A Conversion Method from HDR Video to SDR Video Considering with Perceptual Performance

(in English) HDR (High Dynamic Range) video is possible to display the maximum 1200% luminance images in a HDR display. However, luminance is limited in SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) display. Loss of high luminance is occurred because of lack of information exceed 100%. On the other hand, the perceptual performance of spatial frequency influence in an actual viewing. In this study, we extend high luminance area considering with perceptual performance to improve the presentation performance of the converted SDR images in the SDR display. It is assumed that HLG (BT.2100) is used as a HDR video and 200% luminance is possible in the SDR display. In the conversion, maximum (200%) luminance is used in the area which perceptual filtered HDR image exceed given value. As results of objective experiments, it is recognized that the proposed method can improve the presentation performance maximally 2dB in WPSNR.
