[Invited Talk] Application of dynamics-based pedestrian simulation
Toshihiro Kawaguchi (Kansai Univ.) ICTSSL2022-16
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Pedestrian simulations can be divided into rule-based and dynamics-based models regarding to the self-driving properties. A dynamics-based model is suitable high-density crowds, such as an emergency evacuation in a building, since people physically interact with each other. This paper introduces the Discrete Element Method (DEM) as an application for pedestrian simulations. The basic model of DEM is explained, and the additional models for applying DEM to pedestrian simulation are introduced. Applications including the distribution of compressive force in packing crowds, the collision rate in pedestrians when texting while walking is mixed, the effect of installing objects near the exit when people are heading from the room to the exit, and the descent using stairs are exhibited.
