(in English) Image quality evaluation plays a fundamental role in assessing the performance of various image processing methods.
Among them, SSIM (Structural Similarity) is a major image quality evaluation method that is said to show a response close to that of subjective human evaluation.
However, the data used today is much larger than when the SSIM was first proposed.
In addition, there is ambiguity in the definition, and some parameters vary from implementation to implementation.
In this paper, we evaluate the SSIM on a new, larger dataset (KADID-10K) in order to optimize the parameters and clarify implementation differences.
We also show that the new pooling method has higher performance.
Experimental results show that many parameters are different from the optimal values in the paper, and that the performance differs significantly depending on the undefined downsampling, anti-aliasing filter for that, and the treatment of boundary conditions.
