Performance Evaluation of Data Augmentation Using Face Parsing for Improving Face Recognition

(in English) Face recognition is one of the most promising methods to recognize individuals. Since the recognition accuracy is degraded by changes in capturing conditions and aging, there are a lot of works, which is related to loss functions and datasets, to improve the robustness for the changes. In this paper, we propose a novel data augmentation method for face recognition using face parsing. Random semantic regions in face images such as eyes, nose, and mouth are erased during training a face recognition model. Through a set of experiments using multiple public face image datasets, we demonstrate that the proposed method is effective to improve the robustness for changes in pose.
