Measuring the Effectiveness of Programming Learning Using an Indentation Inspection Program

(in English) We will integrate an indentation checking function into our report writing tool, which has been operating for about five years. This function allows students to check the correctness of indentation and deepen their understanding of indentation before submitting their reports. We confirm that this feature deepens the understanding of indentation in a C++ language class of about 75 second-year university students. In the written examination check, this indentation inspection program improved the understanding of indentation from 56.8% to 71.8%. We also found that students who understood indentation performed better. However, it was impossible to determine whether the students correctly understood indentation from the submitted programming reports.
