HEVC Image Quality Assessment for eXtended Reality (XR) Based on 360 Degrees Camera

(in English) 360 degrees video camera is often used in our life, event, information communication service, and Virtual Reality (VR), eXtended Reality (XR) systems. Thus far, there were studies for multi-view 3D image quality assessment for coded degradation. Because of requiring multiple viewpoints in multi-view images, we studied on coded image quality of each viewpoints. On the other hand, 360 degrees camera can be seen in wide range because it is included as panoramic and whole-sky image. Therefore, it is required high-definition image such as Quad Full HDTV (4K QFHDTV). Field of users' view is limitted to a certain extent, however, it is not clarified for users how image coded quality is needed. In this paper, first we generated 360 degrees camera images by using 360 degrees camera "RICOH THETA Z1". Next, we processed of H.265/HEVC for generated images. From this, we estimated and discuss fundamentally how image coded quality is controlled by changing of image region or coding parameter. On the other hand, we considered application for eXtended reality using "Xperia View".
