This paper provides a third-party hardware performance evaluation of the NIST LWC finalist
Romulus with threshold implementation (TI). We propose
a new circuit architecture for efficiently implementing the inverse
tweakey schedule, which is necessary for extending the primitive
tweakable block cipher to Romulus. Our Romulus implementation
with and without TI achieves 9,915 and
4,949 GE, respectively. We verify our design through test-vector leakage
assessment, and our design shows no first-order leakage using 10,000
simulated side-channel traces. |
