As the number of devices wireless LAN function increases, there will be more opportunities for multiple stations (STAs) to connect to a single access point (AP). In IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, when multiple STAs communicate to an AP, if some of them communicate at lower data rates, the throughput of this network will be reduced. This problem is called ” performance anomaly.” IEEE 802.11 uses distributed coordination function (DCF) as the medium access control (MAC)
protocol. However, with the conventional DCF, each STA is given the same opportunity to transmit a data frame, resulting in a significant decrease in throughput due to longer-time data frames transmitted by lower-rate STAs. One solution to this problem is to increase the transmission opportunities for higher-rate STAs. We focus on the success priority DCF, which gives non-contention channel access with a certain probability to STAs that successfully transmit data frames, as a solution to increase transmission opportunities for higher-rate STAs. The simulation results show that the success-priority DCF is effective
to improve the network throughput and data frame time. |
