Time-resolve constellation monitoring of quadrature amplitude modulation optical signals with time-and-frequency slicing-and-synthesizing method

(in English) In coherent transmission systems, we require simple constellation monitoring of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) optical signals without signal equalization. We propose a spectrally slicing-and-synthesizing method, where narrow bandwidth slices of periodic optical signals are sequentially measured using low-speed coherent receivers, and they are synthesized by signal processing. In the method, the laser coherence time is required to be longer than the temporal period of the optical signals because the phase noise is suppresed based on the periodicity of the optical signal. To avoid the limitation due to the laser coherence time, we propose a time-and-frequency slicing-and-synthesizing method to divide signal components in not only the spectral domain but also the temporal domain, enabling to measure time-resolve constellation monitoring. With our proposed method, we measure time-resolve constellation diagrams of 12.5-Gbaud quadrature phase shift keying and 16QAM optical signals using a 2-Gsample/sec oscilloscope with a 400-MHz bandwidth.
