Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The recent growth in higher demand for mobile data has motivated wireless communication over the extreme high-frequency band (EHF) to meet requirements of a higher transmission rate and massive capacities. However, EHF is prone to attenuation, diffraction, and reflection loss from blockages. Hence, wireless communication in the EHF band faces the challenge of extending the communication range in environments where obstacles exist. To address such challenges, reflecting devices are gaining attention, which can reflect radio signals in a designated direction to avoid obstacles without any significant loss. In reflecting devices, metamaterial is used to optimally control the reflection of signals by utilizing its variable electromagnetic properties. As a further development, IRS (Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces) that can dynamically control electromagnetic properties, are being actively studied as devices for optimizing time-varying propagation environments. Therefore, we have conducted measurements of basic characteristics of specular reflection of radio waves using transparent reflective film that can be a material for IRS. This paper shows some measurement results and evaluates the effectiveness of transparent reflective film compared to aluminum plates.
