High frequency ultrasound transducers are used in various fields such as non-destructive tests and imaging techniques for biological tissues. However, there are few reports on the effects of high-frequency (tens to hundreds MHz) and high-intensity (MPa) ultrasound waves to visible light in liquids. In this report, we evaluated the acousto-optic effect in liquid using a KNbO3 thin film transducer formed by hydrothermal method. We found that the refractive index distribution of water was changed near the transducer surface excited with 160MHz. We evaluated the refractive index distribution using laser deflection experiments, Schlieren method, and optical fiber sensor measurement. |
