Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Body movements under various movement speeds retain speed-invariant kinematic features.
Although the speed invariance is evident in arm-reaching and piano-playing motions, it is unclear how the speed invariance is acquired in the learning process.
The current study examined how skill learning affects the speed invariance via the comparison among healthy pianists (i.e., subjects with skill learning), pianists with focal hand dystonia (i.e., subjects with maladaptation), and non-musicians (i.e., subjects without skill learning).
The current study revealed three characteristics of speed invariance:
1) pianists with focal hand dystonia show lower speed invariance than healthy pianists,
2) task difficulty affects speed invariance, and
3) non-musicians demonstrated higher speed invariance than pianists with focal dystonia and healthy professional pianists.
