Recently, annealing hardware specialized to combinatorial optimization problems has been developed, and there are some services employing some of them. However, the specialized hardware has a restriction; it can only use binary variables because its input format is the quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) formulation. Therefore, discretization is necessary to solve problems with continuous variables. However, there is a severe constraint on the number of binary variables in the specialized hardware. Since the simple binary expansion in the previous research requires many binary variables, we need to reduce the number of binary variables due to hardware constraints. In this research, we propose a discretization method using the correlation of continuous variables. We numerically show that the proposed method reduced the number of binary variables without significantly degrading the performance of the result. |
