Image preprocessing is a promising approach to improve accuracy in image classification using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this study, we focused on Gabor filters, which are the model of preprocessing in biological visual systems, and developed an image classification algorithm that uses these filters as preprocessing for CNNs. To evaluate this algorithm, we compared the results of the algorithms with and without image preprocessing that employs Gabor filters. The STL-10 and CIFAR-10 datasets were used for training and inference. We evaluated the averaged accuracy of CNNs whose hyperparameters were randomly determined so that the results are independent of the values of hyperparameters.The results showed that Gabor filtering increased the classification accuracy. |
