We study electrospray ion sources as high-thrust propulsion for nanosatellites. Previously, we fabricated a high-density emitter array using a field emitter array fabrication technology. However, an additional ion accelerator electrode was necessary because the distance between the emitter and the extractor was small. In this study, the emitter density is reduced, and the distance between the electrodes is increased to apply several hundred volts. Thus, a high thrust density is obtained without the accelerator electrode. For this purpose, we fabricated emitter arrays using SU-8 thick film resist as the inter-electrode material. |
