Recently, the effectiveness of UV-C light (wavelength: 100-280 nm) irradiation for coronavirus suppression has been demonstrated and has attracted much attention. However, UV-C germicidal lamps (wavelength: 254 nm), which are widely used today, may cause skin cancer and cataracts. The purpose of this study is to realize a deep ultraviolet field emission lamp (FEL) with a wavelength of 230 nm or less, which is reported to have no effect on the human body. The emission wavelength depends on the band structure of the phosphor, and the luminous intensity depends on the amount of emission current and acceleration voltage. A carbon-based electron source, which can emit a large current and is inexpensive and easy to handle, is used to excite the UV phosphor, which is a mixture of MgO and Al2O3 wide-gap semiconductors. We report the experimental results of shortening the central wavelength and increasing the luminescence intensity of the phosphors toward the realization of deep-ultraviolet FEL. |
