(in English) In the access links of mobile communications system, RF repeaters and relaying nodes have been considered as a means to expand coverage, to counter dead spots caused by some blockages, or as a measure to realize indoor coverage. In particular, RF repeaters, which are relatively inexpensive, are widely used in actual commercial systems. In addition, the millimeter wave bands, such as the 28 GHz band that has recently begun to be used for 5G, have higher propagation loss than the conventional microwave bands, so expectations for RF repeaters are increasing. In order to compensate for propagation loss in the millimeter wave bands, gNB and UE are equipped with antenna beamforming functions, and the gNB coordinates and controls these functions. Therefore, it is expected that RF repeaters also have the same function and are controlled by the gNB to realize efficient operation. This presentation describes the standardization trend of the RF repeater of which beams and other functions can be controlled by the gNB, which is currently being standardized in 3GPP Release 18, called NR network-controlled repeater. In addition, as a technique to further improve the communication performance of RF repeaters introduced in the millimeter wave bands, this presentation introduces a relay method to achieve high-speed transmission by applying frequency multiplexing and spatial multiplexing to each link between a UE and an RF repeater and between an RF repeater and a gNB, respectively, and by applying Line-of-sight MIMO to the link with spatial multiplexing.
