Heterogeneous networks (HetNets), which are combined with a macrocell and picocell in the same coverage, are promising technique to further increase the system capacity. In HetNets, the picocell range expansion (CRE) technique plays an important role to virtually expand the picocell coverage, and it can allow more user equipment (UE) to access the picocell. Conventional CRE techniques provide a fixed cell selection offset (CSO) for all UE within macrocells. The CRE may worsen user throughput if several UE are forced to connect to the picocell because the received SINR of the UE becomes lower. Therefore, we propose a personal picocell scheme using an adaptive control CRE technique in which different CSOs are assigned to UE to form each optimal picocell for each UE. One way to realize the personal picocell scheme is to use the downlink received SINR obtained from the reference signal of the donor microcell. Second way refers the connection ratio of UE to picocells. In this paper, we first describe the algorithm of the proposed scheme. Then, we show the user throughput for the proposed scheme in comparison with conventional CRE by using system-level computer simulations. |
