[Poster Presentation] Dependence of concentration on inactivation of E. coli by ultrasound
Kei Nishiguchi, Shun Nagaura, Ken Yamamoto (Kansai Univ.) US2022-55
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To realize a more sustainable society, researchers have increasingly turned their attention toward ultrasonic sterilization, which has fewer downsides. In this study, the effect of E. coli suspension concentration on ultrasound inactivation was investigated over a broad frequency range of 26 kHz to 3.6 MHz. The result showed that the concentration influenced the frequency dependence of the inactivation rate. Therefore, the mechanism of inactivation by ultrasonic cavitation may vary based on concentration. To determine the impact of ultrasonic cavitation on inactivation, we observed cells using scanning electron microscopy, quantified the amount of DNA released from cells, and quantified the chemical impact of ultrasonic cavitation using the KI method.
