Radio Wave Propagation Property Evaluation of Transparent Reflective Film and the Effects of Shape Variation in Real Environments

(in English) Recently, researchers are focusing on the use of extreme high-frequency bands (EHF) to meet extremely high bandwidth demands. However, EHF is highly vulnerable to obstacles and experiences higher losses due to diffraction, reflection, and scattering. Therefore, users can experience lower signal quality owing to obstacles between the base station and them. To address such issues, the IRS (Intelligent Reflecting Surface) has attracted attention for improving the propagation paths by dynamically controlling the phase of reflected waves in response to incoming radio waves without any signal losses. Therefore, in this research, our objective is to validate the IRS characteristics and radio wave propagation property in a real environment through experiments. In this experiment, we use a transparent reflective film in a real environment and place obstacles between a transmitter and a receiver. Through experiments, we have verified variations in the radio propagation property in the presence/absence, location, and different shapes of transparent reflective film.
