We previously proposed a blindly-detectable direct-spread spectrum (DSS) method using linear prediction (LP) residue. This method uses frame synchronization, however, it requires a long signal duration for highly accurate synchronization. In this paper, we improve the LP-DSS method to enable frame synchronization with high accuracy even with a short signal duration. The improved method was realized by focusing on the characteristic of M-sequence signal and by spread spectrum modulation of the LP residue with the M-sequence signal. To evaluate the improved method, the sound quality, frame synchronization accuracy, and robustness of the improved method were compared with those of the previously proposed method when the intensity setting level was changed. The results showed that the improved method was able to achieve frame synchronization with an accuracy greater than $80%$ at a strength setting level of $-20$ dB for short signal duration, although the sound quality of the watermarked signal from improved method was lower than that of the watermarked signal from previously proposed method. The improved method was sufficiently robust against desynchronization attacks than the previously proposed method on a short signal duration. |
