Conventionally, traffic volume surveys conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and local governments to comprehend road congestion and other conditions have been conducted by surveyors visiting the site directly and using counters to survey traffic by direction of travel, vehicle type, and so on. On the one hand, in recent years, with the increasing use of IoT sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, methods using image analysis have attracted attention from the perspective of drastic cost reduction, and research and development is being actively conducted. We have proposed a "Traffic volume survey system installed on utility poles using piezo sensor" and have studied various functions and basic technologies to realize the system. In this report, we propose and experimentally evaluate a "method for judging whether a vehicle can pass or not based on sensor measurement data" for vehicle passage detection, which is one of the functions of this system. |
