Transmission loss characteristics of aqueous solutions with refractive index of higher than 1.45 using microfiber

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Our goal is to realize a sensor that can measure the turbidity of river water for river management using microfibers. We have shown that a microfiber with a diameter of 25 μm at the thinnest tapered part can be used as a refractive index sensor for aqueous solutions with a refractive index of up to 1.44. However, it could not be used for aqueous solutions with a refractive index of 1.45 or higher. In this report, the transmission loss characteristics of aqueous solutions with a refractive index of higher than 1.45 were verified using a microfiber with a larger diameter at the thinnest tapered portion.
