[Invited Lecture] Multi-band Optical Networks that Adopt Flexible Waveband Routing

(in English) Multi-band optical transmission has been extensively studied as further capacity enhancement over current transmission over the C-band can be achieved. In this paper, we propose a novel bundled-path-routing node architecture for multi-band optical networks which consists of low-port-count wavelength-selective switches and optical matrix switches. Optical paths distributed over multiple bands are grouped and routed together. A network design algorithm based on graph degeneration is proposed. Numerical simulations on several topologies elucidate that the routing performance deterioration does not exceed 3% relative to conventional WSS-based nodes while substantial hardware scale reduction is achieved.
