[Invited Talk] V2X Communication Technology for Cooperative Automated Driving

(in English) Automated driving technology is expected to play a central role in ITS technology to solve the problems of loss of human life, air pollution, energy consumption, and time loss in road traffic. However, autonomous automatic driving has the same limitations as human drivers because it replaces the driver's sensory organs, thinking ability, and operating ability with sensors, computers, and driving devices. This is because autonomous automatic driving is a replacement for humans and, like human drivers, operates based on local information. In order to overcome this limitation, the Connected Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM), which combines the technologies of the connected car, cooperative ITS, and automated driving, which have been studied and developed separately until now, is attracting attention. CCAM is a concept that has emerged mainly in Europe, but similar efforts are underway in the United States, where these research and development fields are collectively referred to as cooperative driving automation (CDA). This presentation will focus on communication and cooperative ITS technologies that support automated driving. First, as a premise of this report, the communication architecture of cooperative ITS and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) will be explained, followed by the roadmap and diffusion trends of CCAM and CDA. Finally, we will introduce the research and development in our laboratory.
