Local 5G enables local companies and municipalities to flexibly build and maintain stable wireless access environments within their premises, such as factories and distribution warehouses. One of the use cases of Local 5G is the operation and control system of an avatar robot, which is operated by a human operator from a distance. Avatar robots are expected to perform flexible and precise movements, such as communication (e.g., conversation and customer service) and movement while avoiding people and obstacles, and natural teleoperation without time lag requires low latency and high bandwidth networks. In this paper, we experimentally evaluate a network that can operate demanding applications such as avatar robots by taking advantage of the high radio quality of Local 5G and the technology to control that quality appropriately. The experiments confirmed that Local 5G has lower latency and smaller fluctuation range than conventional Wi-Fi. The results also showed that even when large amounts of dummy traffic are added to the Local 5G network, which can cause an increase in latency of several tens of milliseconds or more, the priority control function of the wireless network can be applied to communications involving the avatar robot to suppress the increase in latency and achieve quality that is suitable for the application. |
