A Fundamental Study on Usability of a Recipe Presentation System Using Aerial Imaging for Kitchen Use

(in English) When referring to recipes during cooking in the kitchen, using books or operating smartphones or tablet devices with dirty or wet hands can lead not only to damage to the books or malfunction of the devices but also to be unsanitary. To address this problem, aerial imaging, which allows for touchless operation of information devices and has recently gained attention, can be a potential solution. In this study, a mid-air display prototype and a recipe-providing website design and their evaluation were conducted to reveal the usability issues of a system that allows for touchless reference of recipes using aerial imaging. In the prototype of the mid-air display, it was emphasized that it should be compact and not obstructive in a small kitchen. In the design of the website, it was prioritized to have an easily operable design considering the characteristics of the aerial image. This report will present the findings from the trial of the above system and the user's evaluation experiment on its usability.
