FPGA cluster is a promising platform not only in the cloud but in the 5G wireless base stations with limited power supply by taking significant advantage of power efficiency. It is useful to grasp how much power is needed for a certain task on an FPGA cluster and find how to optimize the design by reducing the power consumption to estimate the total power consumption of an FPGA cluster at the design step. This work proposes a power estimation model from the detailed results of measuring the power consumption of our two FPGA clusters, namely FiC and M-KUBOS cluster. This model can estimate the total power with a maximum error of 15%, and it can help application designers to use FPGA clusters efficiently. |
