Judgement of out-of-bounds in basketball by object detection and depth estimation

(in English) In this report, we propose a system which performs judgements of out-of-bounds in basketball using a monocular camera image. The system detects three types of objects (player, shoes, and a ball) and estimates their 3D depth. It determines whether the shoes and the ball are in contact with the floor surface. We experimented the proposed system with video clips of a basketball game. The results showed that mean average of precision of object detection process was about 0.84, and mean absolute error on the court boundary line of an image as depth estimation process was 0.28 m. The output of proposed system in16 of 19 images were corresponded with the major judge by 18 participants. It show the proposed system may be useful as a judgment method from monocular camera images.
