The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman Telescope) is a near-infrared astronomical satellite of NASA, which is planned to be launched in 2026. The Roman Telescope is expected to explore the origin of the accelerated expansion of the universe and the formation process of exoplanets and to conduct a wide range of scientific research on various astronomical objects with large-scale statistics, which will open a new field of exploration of life in the universe by astronomical methods in the future. ISAS/JAXA has started the Roman Project and is now preparing to receive the data as an international cooperative station for large-scale scientific observations, which is one of the contributions of Japan, in cooperation with plural universities and research institutes including Osaka University, and the JAXA space tracking and communications center. The scientific observation data will be downlinked from the Sun-Earth L2 halo orbit to the Misasa station in Nagano prefetcher at ultra-high-speed transmission using 26 GHz Ka-band, which is an unprecedented, ambitious, and challenging plan. The plan and outline of this mission are described in this paper. |
