[Invited Talk] Technology Development and Demosnstrations of Ultra Reliable and Low Latency 5G Vehicular Communication System -- Application to Automated Follower Truck Platooning --

(in English) 5G mobie operaters are required to establish new use cases for vertical industries and for slolving social issues, urgently, in order to fully exploit the new 5G capabilitis such as URLLC and mMTC.Vehicular communications for automated drving technology including platooning are considered to be one of promising use cases of 5G whose ultra reliability and low latency are required. Towards application to truck platooning, we have developed a new prototype system equipped with V2V direct communication radio interface (i.e., sidelink) based on 5G New Radio (NR) URLLC technologies. This paper introduces our developed 5G NR sidelink prototype system before 3GPP defines the detail specifications. Next, it presents our field evalution tests of the prototype system with actual large-size trucks on automotive test course and public expressway environments for applying 5G V2V communications to truck platooning. Then, it describes an automated follower truck platooning trials on Shin-Tomei Expressway based on vehicle-control message transmission between the electric control units (ECUs) of real experimental platooning trucks using the prototype system. Finally, it also presents a low-latency V2N and V2N2V technology with the use of SRv6 MUP (Segment Routing over IPv6 Mobile User Plane) required for remote monitoring/operation of the platoon vehciles, and for ensuring the redundancy of the V2V communication link redundancy, respectively.
