Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The specific absorption rate (SAR) is used for an assessment of a human exposure from wireless communication devices. Wireless devices used near a human body are required to assess a human exposure. In recent years, the smartphones which control the transmitted power based on the proximity sensor for human body sensing become commercially available. The SAR measurement procedure should address such the wireless communication devices. For this reason, SAR based conformity assessment standard describe the evaluation procedure for the wireless devices with the proximity sensor. In this study, we conducted an evaluation accordance with the measurement standard using a commercially available sixteen types of smartphones to verify the validity of the wireless devices with a proximity sensor based SAR reduction functionality. Firstly, we verified that the proximity sensor works on the phantom instead of the human body. The result showed that the proximity sensor worked on the phantom with three types of smartphones and that the proximity sensor trigger position can also be appropriately evaluated. In addition, it was found that the current measurement system based on probe scanning required around one-hundred twenty hour of measurement time when the evaluation method for the proximity sensor in this study was applied. The result showed that the measurement time reduction is one of the future works for the proximity sensor evaluation. Finally, we evaluated the effect of the screen protection film on the operation of the proximity sensor. From the result, the proximity sensor operated regardless of the presence or absence of the protection film.
