[Invited Talk] Beam-scanning Antennas and Integrated Techniques in Sub-THz Wave Band

(in English) The 300 GHz band is being considered for large-capacity wireless communication and future mobile communication systems. The higher the frequency, the shorter the wavelength propagating in RF devices, which makes it more difficult to manufacture due to the need for fine shape processing and its high accuracy in manufacturing. On the other hand, in this frequency band, antennas have the advantage to achieve high gain even if their physical dimensions are small. However, its structure becomes more complicated, and the difficulty of manufacturing becomes higher. Practical use of this frequency band depends on how simple the feed system can be, how low loss it can be, and how large-scale antennas can be realized with respect to the wavelength. In this talk, beam scanning antennas for establishing communication in a wide angular range by using a narrow beam antenna with a large aperture for the wavelength will be discussed. Their integrating techniques and its actual issues will be discussed in detail.
