Estimation of rotation angle using pilot signal for image watermarking

(in English) Robust watermarking methods must be resistant to attacks. In conventional methods, errors have been corrected after extracting the watermark, regardless of the type of attack. For example, error-correcting codes or spread spectrum were used to correct watermark errors. In order to reduce watermark errors, embedding methods in the frequency domain such as DCT and DFT have been proposed. These methods are effective against non-geometric attacks such as distortion due to compression. However, it is necessary to synchronize the embedding position of the watermark against geometric attacks, e.g., by using SIFT feature points. If the type and intensity of the attack could be estimated, synchronization would be possible and errors could be reduced. There are several types of attacks, such as scaling, rotating, and cropping. In this work, we focus on image rotation and propose a method for estimating the angle of rotation using a grid-shaped pilot signal. The proposed method suppresses the slant derived from the original image while emphasizing the slant of the pilot signal. As a result, the rotation angle of the stego-image could be estimated accurately.
