A study of Position Estimation by Intercepting Control Signals of Drones

(in English) In this study, we investigated a method for estimating the position of a drone using a passive method in order to deal with suspicious drones. The proposed method uses TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) positioning, which is one of the object location estimation methods. In this method, the drone's signal is observed by five receivers, and the position of the drone is estimated from the difference in the time when the signal is received without the observer emitting radio waves. In this report, we first introduce the TDoA positioning formula for estimating the drone's position, and predict the accuracy of the position estimation by simulation. We also describe a method for estimating the difference in reception time by observing the drone's signal. Finally, we conduct a location estimation experiment in an outdoor environment and discuss the accuracy of the received time difference detected and the results of the location estimation accuracy, and examine the effectiveness of the proposed passive drone location estimation method.
