The Ideal Approach to Teaching Materials for Learning Japanese Onomatopoeia: A Case Study of 'Dondon' and 'Dandan'

(in English) Onomatopoeia occupies a significant position in the Japanese language (Kindaichi, 1978), yet its description in existing Japanese language teaching materials and dictionaries is not always sufficient (Watanabe, 1997). Therefore, this study focuses on the synonymous onomatopoeias "dondon" and "dandan," conducting a comprehensive corpus investigation. Based on aspects such as the insertion of "to," subject attributes, and aspect, the behavior of these two words is clarified. Subsequently, the study proposes new learning materials that facilitate the natural acquisition of these expressions.
