Development of Smartphone App of an application of EmoEditor (Emotion-Expressive Editor) to mail communications

(in English) We report the implementation of an emotion-expressive editor, EmoEditor, which enables emotion expression through font changes and has been applied to email communication as an Android app. Communication using electronic text takes place in various scenarios such as emails and social media. However, a challenge in electronic text communication is the difficulty in conveying emotions. In this study, we propose expressing emotions through changing in font. In our previous study, we developed a deep neural network based on StyleGAN2, enabling the generation of high-quality fonts by inputting the base font and labels for the font. While it is possible to run this deep neural network on a mobile application, we try lightweighting DNN for reducing the computation time for font generation. Specifically, we propose a novel lightweighting technique based on Depthwise Separable Convolution. Experimental results indicate that the lightweight model achieves shorter computation time and lower FID, implying the capability for higher-quality font generation. For the smartphone application, we implemented it as an Android application and evaluated it based on feedbacks from e-ZUKA Smart App Contest.
