Drone Flight Guidance Method Using Millimeter Wave Radar

(in English) Drones are used in a variety of fields, including logistics and environmental measurement.
In particular, drones are used in maritime applications to transport goods, monitor weather, search for fish, monitor red tides, manage ports, and detect illegal vessels.
However, landing on a ship is challenging due to a rocking landing surface caused by waves and poor visibility.
Given this situation, we have been investigating a flight guidance method for shipboard landing using RFID tags with millimeter wave radar, which is less susceptible to weather conditions.
In this paper, we describe a system in which RFID tags and landing ports are appropriately placed to consistently guide a drone that is far from the landing site.
Specifically, we describe a method for guiding a drone from the "approach point," where a millimeter-wave radar detects a tag placed near the landing site, to the "attitude adjustment point," where the tilt of the landing port, which is buffeted by waves, is measured and the descent is started at the appropriate time to reach the "landing point.
