Exploration of Soft Palate Image Based Diagnostic System for High-Risk Individuals of Esophageal Cancer

(in English) Previous studies have shown that certain findings of the soft palate are associated with the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Based on this research, we decided to apply AI (Artificial Inteligence) technology to early detection of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. In this study, we propose to utilize images taken of the inside of the mouth, including the soft palate, to determine whether a patient has esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by AI. The AI diagnosis system uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model.The model is pre-trained and fine-tuned on a soft palate image dataset. The CNN model and the dataset used are compared with several training patterns, including the most representative and the latest ones. The evaluation results show that some models show about 70% of the correct answer for all of the soft palate images and about 90% for the images only with the findings.
