| （英） | The author began his career as a researcher during the second AI boom (1980 -) and found a way out in Internet research during the following AI winter (1995 -). I survived by moving back and forth between these two fields until retiring last year. As a keynote for the IA workshop, I was asked to provide a talk that would be helpful to young researchers: What kind of knowledge did I find useful in my career? Also, I want to talk about what was the center of my interest. References [1], [2], and [3] are mainly about AI research and are supported not only by knowledge of the booming AI but also by knowledge of computer architecture in general. Regarding [1], a numerical calculation program running as an application on real-time OS and an AI program running on the UNIX emulator were connected via shared memory to perform the overall processing. My contribution was more significant as an engineer who understands how computers work rather than as an AI researcher. After that, I got a degree in an AI-related topic [2]. However, my research topic was not well received within the industry. Thus, I had to look for a way out of Internet research and eventually moved to academia. Regarding Internet research, I started as an administrator of a mail system. All I could do was keep the mail system running correctly. So, I naturally had to monitor traffic to see how the system behaved. Although I could not do theoretical work, being in an environment where I could monitor actual traffic was helpful when thinking about research themes ([4, 5, 6], etc.). Now I'm retired and have more free time. I'm studying AI methods for analyzing online data, such as traffic data. I would like to talk about it also. |
